I still have to thank you for your kind lines

of January 27th. from which I was very sorry to learn that you had been laid up, however, I hope that it was nothing very serious and that you have fully recovered in the mean time.

Now and again I hear from Mr. Schluter about

the progress made with liquidatiảng our firm and I will not fail

to express my gratitude to you for the careful manner in which you

guard our interests. I understand that the market conditions at your end are extremely bad, more especially for piecegoods, and although the outlook is rather gloomy, let us hope that things will right themselves before long.

As regards the Texas Company it will no doubt

interest you to hear that I have just been informed that the

Company had obtained Mr. Fuhrmann's consent on behalf of R. B. &

Co. to a transfer of their agency, hitherto conjointly held by

Messrs. Sanders, Rahders & Co. Ltd. and our firm, to Messrs.

Sanders Rehders and Co. Ltd. London who in their turn have appoint-

-ød Mr. H. Cheetham to represent them at Hongkong. Mr. Fuhrmann

writes me that under the existing unfortunate circumstances he

could not but agree to the T, Coy's wishes, seeing that we were

debarred from carrying on their business at Hongkong and that it

was of no avail to raise further obstacles, as our contract with

the T. Coy. anyhow would expire on the lst. October, 1915. Having

regard to the situation it also appears to me that it would be best

for us to submit to the Texas Coy's wishes.

As to the personality of Mr. H. Cheetham I may

mention that this gentleman was under contract with out firm as

manager of our Piecegoods Department until the end of 1914 which
